Local tourism is constantly growing - having the effect that housing particularly in the city centre is becoming increasingly unaffordable. There is a strong demand on social housing and renting or buying in the private housing sector is out of reach for many families.
A range of social institutions in Bologna are working together to push for urban policies that will provide struggling families with the financial support necessary to pay rent. This network of organisations aims to prevent evictions, whilst also connecting individuals with community-based housing solutions. Promoting access to social housing, supporting tenants at risk of eviction and facilitating cooperation and solidarity are key steps towards tackling Bologna’s housing crisis.
